Project Information
I had a couple of cut offs from a project I did with a Lychee slab. I wanted to make sure they were properly displayed. I welded the base out of 1/2" square tube. Love this project, it was fun to build and turned out great.
Nice, I really like the combination of metal and wood. I made a large outdoor table a few years back, with a 2×1/2" solid steel base, all "black-smithed" with no welding, and topped it off with a redwood top. Looks great and held up really well: http://lumberjocks.com/DrTebi/blog/20058
Did you treat the metal? I have used the old-school linseed oil and beeswax method, and after 5 years outside, it shows hardly any rust at all.
I have to say I am jealous, I don't have access to welding equipment or a furnace anymore… keep up the nice work, metal and wood can be a great combination.
