The Duel – This Vintage Puzzle Box is a ’6 moves to open’ mechanical conundrum. The double-barrel pistol that is featured on top is a replica of Thomas Egg’s work, who was a prominent royal firearm manufacturer of his day. This lovely little box was found sitting alone in an old antique store., empty and without purpose, ...but I soon fixed that. ; )

For those that might not know me, I like to turn old wooden boxes into working puzzle boxes, call it a passion of mine.

This mechanism has a large floating slider in the back and it wants to be all the way to one side or the other, but you are looking for a spot in the middle. By using the plunger in the side holes you can slide it back and forth.

Getting the slider just right has its own trick and takes a soft touch to finally open the lid.

Next.
