This corner desk was a product of my avid computer gaming. My wife had just about given up on ever seeing me in the living room (Not to say she wasn’t still trying to pry me away from my games). I was either in here playing computer games or out in the shop trying to increase my skill set. Her bright idea was that I could build her a corner desk for her laptop and if she couldn’t beat, she could at least join me some of the time. Well, I spent about a year on this one. I built the top out of mahogany right away, then I decided I didn’t know how I was going to put it all together and give her the requested drawer. I put the project on the back burner until the next summer, and then figured out my problem and got to work. I don’t like the legs very much, they came out too skinny, and the desk wobbles because of it, but for my first real piece of furniture, I am happy with the way it looks. The body is plywood with paint, and the top is Mahogany with Mahogany gel stain and a poly clear coat on top. The legs are maple blanks glued up and jointed. Unfortunately, I didn’t add more heft to them before I finished. By the way, while I am writing this out, she is sitting at her desk and working away on her laptop, “By Golly, she was right… don’t ever tell her I said that, oops, she’s looking over my shoulder!”

a beautiful piece of furniture – for a great reason behind it and with good results, obviously :)
Well done.

Nice desk, and as far as wives go, after nearly 40 years of marriage (Jan. 6) I have learned one thing. My wife is right – as far as I’m concerned – even when she’s wrong. In reality she usually is right, I just don’t want her to hear me say that.

A happy wife is a happy life. Nice project!
