Before our daughter was born (about 8 months ago) my wife wanted me to build a bookshelf and bookends for her room. At the time I had been out of woodworking for quite a while due to being a broke mid 20s guy trying to establish myself in another state (pre marriage) so I was super excited to get back into it. I kept it relatively simple with fixed shelves but went kind of crazy with the bookends seeing them as an opportunity to practice handcut dovetails and by the end they looked pretty damn good. My wife is on a chalk paint kick so it’s all pine from the big box stores. The detail on the dresser was designed to match the dresser we had bought as well as the crib. And just to spice it up a bit I made an emblem with my daughters first initial for the top of the bookshelf. That alone took a few times to cut out with a coping saw as it kept breaking.
