My son enjoys playing chess with his friends and he asked if I would make him a chess board for Christmas. Along with the board, he wanted it to have a place to store the chess pieces so he wouldn’t have to carry them around separately. I have not made one of these before so I went online and got some ideas and then designed what you see here. The board is made from Maple, Walnut and Padauk. The storage area under the board is made from Walnut and the drawer is lined with velvet. The finish was done in clear lacquer. My hope is that this will provide many years of enjoyment. Who knows maybe this will even become a family heirloom.

Nice figurines – they are red, for a change. I like that red inlay stripes near edge also.

It is definitely an heirloom. Beautiful work. I like the wood combos also. The Paduak boarder really gives it that extra bling factor.

Nice looking board for sure. No doubt your son will use it for years to come.

Well made board with the pieces nestled neatly in the bottom.
