3 walnut bowls

Project by jockmike2 posted 71 days ago 392 views 0 times favorited 25 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Just 3 walnut bowls out of the wood pile. The larger one was a burl on the side of a big tree. Some beautiful figure in that one. The other two were just plain walnut. I used dark walnut stain on the smaller ones and Waterlox Original on the burl. Then shellaced them all.

Mike: Some great looking bowls. It looks like you are getting your lathe working again.

Thanks all, yes Karson. After buying a lathe at an auction for 4 shwags I got my big lathe fixed again by the same company. They found me a different frequency control, a bigger and better one that was actually cheaper. This one runs really great, better than the actual one that came with the lathe. I had to run a new line for it. 10- gauge wire and a 30 amp fuse but it’s worth it. I’m currently working on a 13 inch 3inch wide piece of cherry to make a bowl for the wife or daughter or whoever beats me out of it. mike

Very nicely done! The shapes are quite elegant. The thinness of them actually make them look more like asian style porcelain bowls.

Thanks all, seems good to post some projects again. I’ve made some things on the other lathe I bought but didn’t think they were worth posting. I know one thing the darn camera I have has got to go. I can’t get a decent picture with it to save my behind. Very kind remarks, very much appreciated. I’m no Trifern but Trifern is no mike. LOL

Very nice bowls. Love the grain in that walnut. Fantastic turnings.

Glad your lathe is up and running again.

Keep it up.

I especially like the burl, however, all three are turned very nice. Did you turn them green first?
