Your variation is actually a double weave.. only part of the weave goes over leaving the accents to go under and vice versa. Very nice adaption of the the classic design. The first one I saw was made by Dan Walters. I don’t think I thanked him properly before so… thanks Dan.
I am so glad that so many jocks are now copying this design and making it their own in some subtle way.
That said … a little critique… The main weaves don’t seem to have full grain continuity and the background also.
This is very important in the overall effect.
The first time I made a tumbling block…. Robin Tucker aka woodmosaics
contacted me and mentioned the need for grain continuity and now here I am doing the same.. must be something about this site that allows us to make helpful critiques without fear that it will be taken the wrong way.
I hope this helps you become a better woodworker.
regards
Lazy Larry

Thanks Larry for your comments, your helpful critique are always welcome. Your boards have been really helpful in so many ways. I plan on tackling the tumbling block end-grain board next. Have a good day and by the way nice web page. Also I to would like to thank Dan Walters for his contribution to this design…Blkcherry

Love your work, great job, I do have a couple of questions though and any help or advice as always is greatly appreciated, 1. you mentioned butcher block oil? I’m just geting started on these and was wondering is this used for finish,,or prep work or is that used for preservation purposes after completed? 2. Since this is for food preperation purposes what type of sealer and glue do you use? Thanks in advance for your help, and thanks for posting your work, I love this site everyone is so helpful and friendly and I always see projects that just blow me away then I look at them and say to myself wow you could do this with that and change this. L.O.L. I guess to much of the wife rubbing off on me I’m never satisfied L.O.L. again. Thanks again and keep up the good work

Hey Gary I hope Black Cherry don’t mind..
Butcherblock oil is used for the finish as it penetrates and keeps the board from drying out and cracking.
I personally use white mineral oil… or as we call it in Australia… parrafin oil.
I think all will agree the best glue to use is Titebond III… FDA approved and waterproof.
Hope this helps.
