this is a gift for my friends with the avocado grove , it is made out of the last of my scraps of avocado wood ,manzanita and redwood fillers for a little contrast. it’s 13×10 x 3 1/2. it started out as a quick little project, then like most of my little projects it took a whole different road, not just in the time but concept. the bottom on this one has a R rating ( my wife won’t let me post the picture ) i had to make a special removable cover it. but the good thing is they will love it.

that avocado wood is beautiful, did you cut a groove around the base to set the staves into?
I too am curious about what is on the bottom.

sorry about not posting pics. for the base i used 2 6” rounds then i glued and air nailed staves to the base , next i had to cover the nail holes so i used the manzanita to cover them. then when i stained the piece the bottom looked 2 big hooters so i just add a couple of 3/8” dowels in the right spots . at that time my wife saw the bowl and didn’t think it was as funny as i did. ... :o)

yes, very original and and quite nicely executed. I would never have thought of avocado as a wood. Very interesting.

Very nice and different. It looks really well crafted too.
