It had been a while since I made anything, and the house my girlfriend shares has a nice detached garage and shop with “full kit”! I asked the owner and the handyman if I could share some space now and again.
For the second time in three years, for the family Christmas gift exchange, I drew the girlfriend’s sister-in-law, and thought another scarf from Europe was in the offing—I go every December for work with professional cycling teams and can usually pick up some nice gifts. I came back with a few, but really wanted to create something. So after talking it over with my girlfriend I decided to try a cutting board. The look on my girlfriend’s face was priceless when I brought it up to the house to ask her about the hand holds, and if the size would work.
I mostly follow the directions from the Wood Whisperer podcast from years ago, “A Cut Above” for making the end grain cutting board.
On Christmas morning, it was the gift of the day—for the exchange part that is.. .my brass top was pretty cool, I think I’ll make a checkerboard spinner plate for it, as I don’t want it dropping on the concrete floor.
I stamped “Christmas 2016” on the back near one of the handles.
