Here are some of the Christmas gifts that I made this year. For my Dad he has always just used the top of his dresser to hold his phone, keys and watch. I saw the valet in a picture and decided to make one for him. Wood is maple and East Indian Rosewood knob that was shaped almost entirely by hand. The knob was shaped on the lathe and is then glued and press ft into the base. The finish was stain, BOL and then waxed and buffed, not sure I like the finish but it should deal with wear better than a poly or shellac.
The other thing that I made for him was a razor stand, and badger brush. The wood on the shaving kit is East Indian Rosewood with a superglue finish. For these juts, I usually try to use a dense, tropical wood, that might resist moisture a little better and then I try to use a durable finish and completely seal the wood. The cyanoacrylic finish does take a wonderful polish and is very robust, I have been using one with the same process for a couple of years.
Thanks for looking, comments always welcome.
Happy New Year.
