I found this stump on the side of the road in Hawaii. Someone had dumped it on the side of Kappa Quarry Road.
It’s a funny story of how I got it. I pulled over to pick it up and I was there alone trying to move this 250lbs monster into the back of my suburban when out of nowhere a man wearing daisy dukes and flip flops shows up to give me a hand. It kind of freaked me out. I guess he was living in the woods there and saw me struggling. The painted toenails were the most interesting part I think. We got it into the truck and he walked back across the street and back into the woods.
Anyway, Once I got it home I cleaned it up and stripped off the bark and used my Arbortech PowerPlane on my angle grinder to level the interior surface of the top. I left a 2” ledge that was the original level around the outside.
I lightly sanded the outside and then sealed it with poly. Lots and lots of poly. The end-grain just kept drinking it.
Thanks for looking.
