I had some Birch Plywood left from my daughters desk (previous post today) and she wanted shelves/an organizer to put on top of the desk. I finally got a dado blade, so I put these shelves together with dados and glue. The face frame is again 1×2 red oak, put together with pocket screws, and pocket screwed to the shelves. The shelf standards were bowing in at the top and bottom, but I got some pipe clamps and put in the middle, and it straightened out nicely. Then I screwed the frame to the shelves with the clamps in place and voila! I was tickles that it came out very square. All the vertical dividers are 1/4 luan plywood, just slid into the dados, so they an be removed, and the horizontal ones on the lower left are 1/2 inch plywood and glued in. I put 2 Miller dowels in the ends of each of the long shelves for added strength. The 2 short vertical pieces on the bottom, and the brace along the very top made it pretty rigid. I finished it with one coat each of 2 differents stains, to match the desk, and used 2-3 coats of spar varnish on top of that.
