My son is fond of rustic, simple, unpretentious furniture. Visiting Lowes for some rough-cut cedar to make him a table for Christmas and saw a pile of boards that were used to sticker bundles of 2×4’s for shipping. They were on a cart heading for the dumpster, so they gave them to me for free.
I also picked up some pre-threaded iron pipe and four flange fittings (about $70 total).
Tuned up the wood to uniform thickness on the table saw and added contrasting breadboard ends from a darker board. Left the surface full of gouges, ink labels, and nail holes. I planed down some of the unusually high edges.
Took a couple hours since there was no finishing or sanding.
He loves it!
