While doing a cabinet for the kitchen, I got the fronts and backs for one drawer reversed in the dovetail jig. It was 3/4 ” Popular so I stuck it together and it laid around the shop for a while. One day I decided it was time to do something with it. I rabbited the back and dadoed in a couple shelves. I made a face frame from used pine and hand dovetailed a drawer. I made a pine door with a birch ply panel and found the spools in my mother’s old sewing box. When I was a kid there were always a couple spools around being used for pulls on cupboard doors or drawers. I put in a 1/2” shiplaped back of pine. I beat the crap out of it and sanded it in strange ways. I doped it up with green paint, gel stain and shellac and glazed it with leather antiqueing. I think I may have topped it with sprayed laquer. I put on a leather latch to go over a horseshoe nail just like the ones my father made. When it was done, we decided it looked just like the cabinet we had in the barn to keep Bag Balm for the milk cow. So what’s it doing in my living room!!!

Very nice finish. Looks ancient. Glad I am not the only one to do dovetail the wrong part. I ended up pinning with dowels and called ‘em fancy fingerjoints.
