I made this as a Christmas gift for a friend to give to her husband. He’s a huge Iowa State fan (good guy) and this will get plenty of use in the man cave. It’s yellowheart and redheart from the shorts/cutoff bin at the local Woodsmith store. I used danish oil, she put the vinyl letters on (wanted to use white but I put my foot down! ;) ) and then I gave it a couple coats of spray poly. I used 5-minute epoxy to set the toothed hanger back, along with some rare earth magnets, to catch the caps as they fall. It was my first time using either wood, I found that they are both very prone to burning, and when sanding them, the red dust tended to get smeared or spread around on the yellow. Shop vac, air compressor, and tack cloth solved that problem, and some light sanding took care of the burn marks from cutting and routing the roundover. Fun, quick little project, I’m working on a second one, for myself this time! Go State!
