This is my first lumberjocks project, please enjoy.
My fiancée is wonderful enough to let me maintain woodshop in her basement. Why she was upstairs, I secretly made her this box that I presented to her with engagement ring when I got down on one knee. The box is made from koa and finished with spray lacquer.
Big thanks to the staff at Hearne Hardwoods who help me dig through their cutoff pile to find the right piece of wood. The piece had some checks that I filled with CA glue.
I am a metallurgist in a steel mill so for the hinge I used a small rod of Pyromet 718, a nickle based super alloy, melted in the furnaces I support every day.
The box design was inspired by this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AqOBedbuswk.
