My Mother mentioned to me that she was “redoing” a part of her front yard where she was going to put a “garden bench” so that she could have a place to sit while waiting for my niece to be dropped off by the school bus (she baby sits for my sister a couple hours a day in the afternoon until she can get there after work). I mentioned that she shouldn’t buy one, as I could make her one.
This was my first project where I used Sketch up to design my project before building it. It was very helpful in figuring out my material list, and it also gave me a chance to show Mom what the bench was going to look like before it was built. Mom, being mom, decided she didn’t like the curved top I had planned, and she wanted it 2” taller than I had originally designed. When it was all said and done, this is the bench she wanted. Something plane, simple, flat, and easy to stand from.
I haven’t figured out how to save sketch up as a jpg yet, or I would have uploaded the original design concept, and final design that Mom signed off on! It was cool giving her something that fit exactly what she wanted!
Just a brief update…Since I gave the bench to my mom, she stained it a dark color to match their house. It made the bench look even better than the pics here. I’ll try to get some pics of it in its final resting place…
