This urn was built by my brother Roy, my son Tom and myself for my mother’s ashes. It is made from curly koa with a maple inlay and finished in a satin finish. This project was completed in 2 days. The urn is about 14” on a side and about 7” tall with a volume of 220 cubic inches.

Sorry to hear about your mother. I think any mother would be pleased to know her family put this kind of effort into such a beautiful urn.

How does it open? Is the bottom the lid?

Firstly, I want to add my condolences along with the other folks here. It was a terrible loss to our family when my mother passed away and it still ripples now and then… it has been over 10 years. I offer my best wishes to you and to your family to help them through their loss.

Second, that is an excellent tribute to her…and the fact that you all worked together on it also shows the deep feeling for her…what a beautiful thoughtful monument.
