Portable router table

Project by Joe posted 76 days ago 662 views 1 time favorited 8 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Seeing that I have a need for a router table and don’t have the room. I made the portable table from Wood Magazine, issue 187. Very easy to build and it works very well for as basic as it is. Its made from 3/4 MDF and finished with some poly. I used my old workmate as a stand. Just pull the center board out for motor clearance and clamp it down.

That’s a nice clean looking router table. Looks like it will serve you much better that some of the metal bench top models.

More tools ! I like that. Since it looks like MDF, it’s great you have put a finish on it to be slik. I don’t see any scratch on it. Brand new?

I believe it’s not your only router table, right?

I have a concern about the clamps you are using, unless you put sandpaper under the fence. I have of one these and found out they don’t apply much pressure. Check this out since some router bits exert quite side pressure.

Best,

Serge

Serge, yes, it is new and you are so correct about the clamps. I am building some picture frames and ruined one today because the fence slid on me and I did not notice it until I finished my pass. Oh well live and learn. I swapped them out with some 6” bar clamps and worked like a champ. And yes this is my only router table. I will build a dedicated table when I have more room. I guess most WW never have enough room.

You are right Joe. You never have enough room. That is a great idea for a portable table.

Nice looking table and always so little room and so few tools.

-- Gene Miller - it only took me 3 days 9 hours and 28 minutes to get that top flat!
