I’m new to woodworking and I felt that the cutting board was a good project to start with. I read several articles and I decided to make a long grain cutting board using walnut and maple. I used the wood whisperer’s cutting board plans and tweeked it a bit. I don’t have a thickness planer or drum sander so I put my random orbital sander to work and after several hours it was smooth and flat ( at least to the touch) I finished it with salad bowl finish which I thinned with mineral spirits.

I enjoyed the build and now the rest of my family has asked for one.

Looks good! I started a drum sander about a year ago and still haven’t finished it. It would be a huge time saver so I should get back to it one of these days.

Thank you! Yes a drum sander would make things much easier. Have you had any luck using a router sled? I was looking into making one those as I have everything to make one.
