I just completed this for my wife for her birthday. It was a fun project and because it was small, I was able to use materials I had around the shop.
The darker wood was taken from the middle portion of a headboard I took apart to make larger for a Queen size mattress. After sanding off the finish, my best guess is Walnut but after applying the finish, it came out more red/brown like Mahogany. I dunno….
Lighter wood is from pieces of Hickory I had left over from the folding Adirondack chairs I finished a couple of months ago.
Like the TV stand project, I like the contrast of the two woods.
Finished off with a few coats of Wipe on Poly.
Hope you like!
