Teak Shower Bench

Project by Boatcap posted 83 days ago 552 views 2 times favorited 4 comments Add to Favorites Watch

This was a needed project. I have not been in the shop due to a broken left leg and damaged knee. I fell on my boat July first and had to have the left knee rebuilt. I built this a couple of weeks ago to help out in the shower. One teak board 96’’ X 6” X 2”. Cut sanded and oiled. My wife asked why I had not made one of these before.

Great Idea! I am currently working on a bathroom remodel that this would be perfect for. Thanks.

That’s a great idea. Your story also caught my eye because two years ago, I also broke my leg. I didn’t fall though. I had the boat in the driveway, cleaning it so I could sell it no less. I jumped off the bow to the ground like I had done dozens of times before and my tibial plateau shattered. I hope your recovery is faster than mine because I’m still recovering.

Anyway, I was very thankful during my down time that I could look at all the cool projects on LJ while confined to the house. I think I can say that I’ve seen 99% or more of the projects that have been posted here. Maybe you won’t need to look at that many before you get back on your feet.

Details on the teak bench.
David, you are correct. It is held together by 3/8 inch galvanized bolts, painted and sealed by silicon caulk, The legs ( 1’’ square) are screwed in place with 2” SS screws and clamped by the bolts. The spacers next to the legs were cut to set the leg angle at 10 degrees. Size is 22” wide, 18”” tall and 15” deep. All edges were rounded by sanding. I did not turn round end caps as I knew it would be watered down daily and I was afraid that the end caps would swell and pop out therefore the square caps held by SS screws. It took six hours or so over two days as I couldn’t stay on my leg too long at one time.

Thank you for the comments
