This is my latest project (and my first post for LumberJocks). It’s a clock made from a piece of spalted birch. I had a couple birch trees taken down a few years ago and some months later noticed that some of it was moldy. So I cut off a chunk hoping it wasn’t too far gone and put it in my garage to dry out. In the last few weeks I cleaned it up and made a clock out of it. The movement is a battery powered quartz unit from Klockit. That’s also where I got the numbers and hands. The key used to reinforce the crack is walnut. The finish is shellac.

Very nice clock. Love that spalted birch. A dhame about the crack, but the walnut key is a good idea.
Keep it up.

That’s some interesting spalting pattern.

Hi Kevin
I like the clock a lot very nice I dont mind the crack, the walnut butterfy has been well executed and should keep the crack stabilized for some time to come, keep up the good work.

A great looking clock. Nice catch and recovery.
