When I first joined Lumberjocks, I asked if anyone knew of a plan for a folding step stool. Bhack responded and pointed me to a plan in Woodsmith (No. 183). Thanks bhack! The plan calls for solid oak as the construction material. I was not interested in creating a show-piece since the plan was to use it for my shop…and, I wanted to minimize cost and use available materials. So I made it out of birch plywood and alder. It is finished with golden oak stain and polyurethane. The stool is very functional but definitely would be a little stronger with a hardwood like oak.

I love it! I like that it has a thin profile. I like that it looks like a fine piece of furniture. Nice job on the finish.

Nice job, I bought that issue and have been planning on making a couple for both my daughters new homes.
Were the plans accurate?
