I made this fountain pen from ancient bog oak which came from what used to be a sea in the Ukraine. I have a carbon dating certificate that shows the wood is 5000 years old. The wood was very interesting to work with, it was incredibly dense due to being under water for such a long time. The exposure to the salt caused the tanins in the wood to turn black and the wood to almost petrify. I had to resharpen my tools every few minutes while turning the wood on the lathe, it was like turning stone. The metal on the pen is 10kt gold and the iridium nib is super fine and writes like silk. The second photo is the actual oak being excavated.

Beautiful pen Jim. Nice choice on both the wood and the components. Hope that you enjoy using it for many years to come.
