A retirement present built for a friend. Originally he had no idea what he wanted past the two plaques but over the course of waffles and whipped cream we hashed out this basic idea. Since we were stationed in Hawaii it HAD to be made from koa. Turns out koa works easily, burns even easier and polishes up nicely.

Great job and welcome aboard. I would love to have the measurements of that box. I have to build a flag for my aunt to house the flag and medals for my recently deceased uncle who was retired from the Navy. I have seen several cases, but really like that design best. Just a rough sketch with measurements will do fine. Thanks.

Very nice job. I like it. The only thing I see wrong is that when the flag is folded like that you shouldn’t see anything but the blue field and the stars. Bravo Zulu

bamasawduster—Watch the measurements. Interment flags are a different size (5’ x 9.5’) than most ceremonial or retirement flags (4’ x 6’).

Senior, that is an awesome shadow box. I’ve seen and made a few, but that is definitely a one of a kind.

You are all very kind! I thank you sincerely.
Dudley, You are absolutely correct, Sir, the flag is not properly folded. It is, however, folded exactly the way the customer wanted it and ultimately, that’s what I ended up going with. I won’t even begin to tell you the taboo-ness of other things he wanted done with the flag!
I just retired from the Navy on the 31st of July so maybe I can actually start building the myriad of things rattling around in my head. Like my own shadow box :) After I finish that 21st century workbench beast..
