sorry no pictures right now, but my wife saw the picture i had previously posted of the un-made bed and she was pretty irritated so she “asked” me pull it down and put up a better picture, (ie: a made bed). coming soon.
There’s no particular style, other than my own which at the time was, “the bigger the better” I have since amended my ways to include actual style as well as function. This bed was simply built for strength and durability, both of which it has in abundance. the bed rails are doubled 2×2 angle iron with 1 1/2 birch plywood side rails screwed onto that. the angle iron alone adds about 50 lbs. and whole bed probably wieghs somehere in the neighborhood of 300-400 lbs, but hey! who’s counting (other than all the complaining the movers did) the headboard is really all you see in the picture but I’ll post some better shots manana or sometime soon. the posts are 6×6 mostly solid birch hardwook but designed in boards laminated together to form the post in such a way that the plywood face inserts into the posts by 3”. very strong and stable. the face is 1 1/2 thick with a thin strip of birch glued and nailed to the top curve. the side rails (steel and wood) are attached to the posts with 2 half inch carriage bolts at each juncture. trust me this thing doesn’t ever even make small creeking sounds. Minwax Early American stain. sorry for the unmade bed. the next shots will feature a made bed :)

That’s one heavy duty bed. How tall are those post? That has to be the largest head board I’ve ever seen.

Looks like a good place to do some last minute prep work on your sermon – the Bible is just an arm reach away.

the posts are about 6’, and yes the headboard is way to large. and yes, even thought the shelf was an afterthought, it comes in handy, so it’s there to stay for sure. thanks for the compliments.
