This is a wee box I made for my wife for Christmas. It is made from walnut and maple. I made it as a cube, then split it down the centre on the bandsaw. It was a bit of an experement in styles and technique.
The sides are 7mm walnut, rebated in to the 4 maple corner pillars. The tray is 5mm maple, with a walnut base, I mitred the corners. I decided to add the walnut mitre keys to strengthen the corners since the walls were so thin. The divisions in the tray are maple, planed down to about 1.5mm, bent into place and glued.
The Maple square key I added to distinguish the front from the back when re placing the lid. The finishing touch was the 4mm thick walnut heart on top.
All finished with a couple of coats of beeswax. I also added a felt inlay to the bottom which isn’t in the pics.
