It’s been a bit chilly this week (lows in the low 30s to highs in the hi 60s everyday) so I haven’t spent too much time in the shop. Rummaging around out there looking for something I could do rather quickly, I ran across a few pallet boards and decided to make a few bird houses for our feathered friends here in JawJa.

Back in TN I had over 60 bird houses scattered about the yard and on the side of my workshop and I figure out that it’s about time I do something here as well. Here’s just one section of workshop wall back in TN…

And here they are. They’re mounted about 10’ off the ground in a pecan tree in my front yard.

That house on the left that looks kinda like a bird’s wing was a section of the pallet that had been stepped on. It broke just like that and I just had to use the “wing” for one of the front walls.

While I was finding odd pieces to use on these for the perches, I spotted Bonnie’s old motorcycle helmet and I converted that into a birdy bungalow too. I cut a “floor” to fit the helmet bottom and it’s held in with a couple screws that’s hidden under the trim pieces. I painted the shield with flat white because it’ll get too hot in there during the summer months.

As usual, comments and critiques welcomed.

Thanks! I’ve actually done this before. Here’s the first helmet I converted.

Joe, I have to hand it to you for creativity. From the first picture I couldn’t tell what that was. Now I have seen it all. Nice job and keep our feathered friends cozy.

I love this Joe, I also had to laugh, being originally from South Carolina, when you described your temperature range as being chilly. I’m an Oregonian now.

Wonderful job and I commend your imagination. Do you have a lot of tenants?

Of course, a bird house would have a wing on it! Great job, Joe!

Nice houses Joe. Can’t say I’ve ever seen a helmet house before. I like it. You know, of all the things I’ve built, I only did one birdhouse. Hmmm…. maybe next spring.

What a brain, Joe. You have a gift. And now, I’m thinking about a pair of ski boots I can no longer use, and can’t be sold (no one buys used ski boots). Thanks.

One of my granddaughters is sitting with me and she said she likes the pink one and the blue one. I sure love my little ones and all are here this Christmas.

Last summer my grandson and I made a birdhouse together and he painted it too.

One of the most fun 2 days I ever spent.

Joe, Good evening. At you in the summer not really hot?? Our temperature increases to + 45 C, in a shadow. I hang up nesting boxes on trees, in a shadow and therefore the lodge not really heats up.
