Made this for the kids two Christmases ago and it still gets plenty of use. I used white board in the frame on one side for dry erase markers and left the other side with just a plywood panel to support a pad or roll of paper for painting. Since these pics I added a roll of paper on the top dowel rod to dispense paper for painting. The frames are lap-jointed and pegged and the legs have a slight taper on the back sides. The marker tray was actually leftover from a picture frame project, but worked well here. The wood is some leftover southern yellow pine and it is finished with poly. I only got one or two quick coats on it since I finished it up late on Christmas eve! I wish I finished it better since the dry erase markers only erase from the areas that have a good thick coating of poly but have stained the wood elsewhere. To most people, it’s not a big deal since it’s a kid’s easel, but everyone here understands why it bugs me. I’m just too lazy to do anything about it!
