Over my head, but I did it

This is an order I received early in the year. My original design treasure boxes. I thought I had plenty of time so I started in Sept. I should have known better! I just finished these boxes yesterday! Why so long? I guess I forgot how much goes into each box. With one box containing 56 kreg holes and screws, 6 boxes made a grand total of 336 kreg holes and screws! Each box body has 41 separate pieces, 6 boxes make 241 separate pieces! Each one is recesses for photographs inside, 8 spaces, that makes 48 for six. 48 backs and 48 plexiglas squares. The list goes on and on!
I was really proud to finish these, getting really scared that I may not be able to finish in time. I hope the people receiving these as gift really enjoy them.
As a side note, the person that ordered these boxes only ordered five. Number six is for her. Sometimes, I just believe in giving back to those who think of me when they like my work enough to make an order like this.
I have posted other boxes like these before but I was proud to get these done in time for gifts. Thanks for looking!

They are very beautiful boxes. I know what you mean about not having enough time. I just finished my Christmas ornaments today and I started in Oct. I actually have the last one on the lathe and it won’t get finished until the 23rd. I’ll start in Aug. next year.

Jeff those are wonderful boxes. I’m closing in on ending my Christmas project. 41 Christmas tree band saw boxes. Many won’t be received until after the holidays. Like you I started back in October. I had to wait for band saw blades thru the mail. That cost we 2-3 weeks. Next year a much smaller gift list!

WOW what a great job I have been scrambling to get some boards done so I know how it feels. They will surely love them.

Same with me, why do we all wait to the last minute? Very nice boxes, the person who ordered them will never know how much work you put in, but we do. Thanks for sharing.

Wow Jeff, you’ve been a busy elf. Love the design and I know how much work is involved. I wanted to put a round top on the toy box I made but they wanted it so someone can sit on it. I like those round tops better. Nice work.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. It seems like we have plenty of time until we get into it then it slowly creeps up on us. During the last month I found myself in my basement shop sometimes until 9:00 at night, parts everywhere! Vicki, are you going to post the ornaments? love to see them. BurlyBob, I saw your bandsaw boxes, very nice! Ken, hang in there, you’ll get them done. woodbutcher, it just seems to happen. Dave, an arch top would have been beautiful on that toy box! Candy, I may have to get a new kreg drill bit. Thanks all for looking and the nice comments.

Wonderful boxes Jeff! I too have been there. Two Christmases ago I was under the gun to finish 19 “ribbon and bow” boxes by Christmas. I don’t recall when I started but I remember finishing the last one on the 19th of December. I felt as though I didn’t enjoy the Christmas season and vowed to never be in that position again. Your end product here is gorgeous and yes, I can’t imagine the recipients being anything but delighted.

No wonder, there are lot of work on them, you can see that clearly. But, they look awesome and deserve every minute and hour of your time.
