My son found a board in an abandoned house that was Birdseye maple. Unfortunately it was infested with what I believe was powder post beetles. I decided to try to make a band saw box out of it. I did not fill in any of the channels or holes just left them. I believe it turned out nicely. It is finished with clear shellac with a few drops of Trans Tint Dye dark vintage maple and three coats Arm R Seal satin.

This is a nice band saw box with some character.

Great looking box and lovely wood. I have made a couple BS boxes from White Oak that had the same look. I liked it, but people sure did look at it differently from other boxes.

Besides good looking box, I like those worm holes and other imperfections in wood – make it more rustic.
