Here is my contribution to the unlimited humber of cutting boards on this site.

My sister recently purchased her first home and this is my house warming gift for her. The larger cutting board is about 20”x12”x1.5” and is made up of maple, cherry and cumaru. I treated the board with about 4-5 treatments of mineral oil. I opted to not put in finger grooves, which may or may not have been a good idea. Also, being that I don’t have a planer or a jointer, I milled all these boards “S4S” with hand planes which was fun…..

The smaller board is part of a much larger project called Cutting Boards for Kylie. Check out the link for more details http://www.cuttingboardsforkylie.com . Kylie has been battling bone tumors for some time, and a good friend of mine started this fundraiser to help with some of the associated costs. Myself and many others offered to help cut, glue, rout, sand and oil in order to help put these boards together, and even though we didn’t quite reach our goal, a lot of people still stepped up and purchased/donated to help out. These boards are made of maple and cherry and measure 8”x12”x7/8” and are also treated with mineral oil.

Nice job. Your sister will love it.

Also, great idea for supporting Kylie and her family. You said you came up short of your goal, was it in number of cutting boards to sell or the number purchased?

-- Rick - I know I am not perfect, but I will keep pressing on toward the goal of becoming all I am called to be.

The goal was 250 cutting boards, I can’t remember the exact amount ordered, but we ended up making about 90 with a few left over if any more orders come in.
