Christmas Gift For The Wife

My wife had a few necklaces she liked on her Christmas list this year. The one I bought her though, came in a real ugly pink box. So I grabbed some scrap oak and walnut. I designed the box around the insert from the original ugly box. Overal I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. I used simple rabbit joints and a groove for the bottom to float in. I finished it with boiled linseed oil. I hope she likes the box too and not just the necklace.

Nice project. I did something analogous for a pair of earrings that didn’t even have a box. Trust me, she’ll love the box as much as what’s in it.

How could she not like it? You made the gift even more special. Good job!

Thanks guys. The hardest part is keeping it a secret from her.

Great job! I used to work in a jewelry store and we hated those ugly boxes too. But we had no choice in the matter – the boxes were supplied by the corporate office and we had to use what they gave us. The buyer had questionable taste (black and tan wrapping paper one Christmas and holidays decorations that melted under the lights in our display windows and stained our display stands). We constantly had requests for better boxes but corporate office was counting pennies. So Bravo for building your own! Thanks for showing us what a REAL gift box should look like.

Merry Christmas and Best Wishes for a Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous New Year!
