This is my latest creation. I am still teaching myself how to carve. This spoon is from a piece of 1×2 pine. I soaked it in vegetable oil for 48 hours to seal it. My wife has designs on it becoming the new coffee scoop.

Okay, its back out to the shop to see what I can conjure up next.

Enjoy.

UPDATED PHOTOS! I HOPE YOU CAN SEE THESE BETTER. I ADDED A GOOD OLD TWO BIT PIECE TO GIVE AN IDEA OF SIZE.

Notice the color change since its been in the coffee canister.

11/17/07 Dan Walters ~ Thank you for including my project in your “Gifts for Christmas” list!

Great – try to get a copy of a Shaker woodworking book with measured drawings – they made quite a few spoons and such out of wood.

I dont think it was hard to do, time consuming yes. Join the fun. I hope to see a spoon of yours in the future.

Carving is a lot more time consuming than I thought it would be but your right , it is a lot of fun. It might be my computer but the lighting is a bit off in the photos so I can’t see the details. Did you sand all your carving marks out of the spoon?

Snow dog I sanded them all away. I used 60 grit and worked my way to 220 on this one.

Dan, this one has been in the coffee urn since its posting and it has certainly taken on a whole new patina.

I will have to try this weekend with some sunlight. The spoon is a bit different looking now. The coffee has created a new patina for it.

Karson ~ I have new photos up for you. My digital camera is now “old” so it does not do as well as others.

Thank you for the renewed interest for this project.
