This is a cherry and walnut box, of my learning to build a box fling. I keyed the corners with walnut and maple. The maple doesent show up much. The top is a piece of cherry crotch I found in the cut off pile. I re sawed it so I have another piece to use later. The cherry has some type of figure around the bottom , I`v not worked with cherry much so I dont know much about it. I made a tray for this one. I had been giving the other ones away as gifts. My wife said this one was staying though. It is finished with several coats of conversion varnish. Hope you enjoy it and thanks for looking.

Nice box, I can see why your wife wants to keep it. BTW… your photography is beautiful also, nice back drops. The first picture almost makes the box look as if it is floating above the rock, ...nice.

This is very nice. I love the way the top came out. The only thing I would like to see is some lining/padding for the tray bottom. That is, if it’s going to be used for jewelry. I also like the contrasting woods. Nice work.
Thanks for posting.

Beautiful box and I love the Cherry in the top. Nice combination of woods and I like how suttle the Maple spline is. Great job.

Great design and build. Your doing great getting through your “current” obsession. haha I know how that goes, all I have done is turn since I got the lathe.
The cherry crotch on this lid is outstanding. re-sawing is a great way to expand your wood collection without the expense. The keys are nice but, I agree, the maple is hard to see in the pics.
Outstanding job. Can see why the wife wants to keep it.
Keep it up.

griff,
Each new box is better lookin’ than the last! This is a great looking design, and I like the maple spline as well. I do believe you have drifted over to the darkside though. All you can see now are four sides to everything, and every thing, has a bottom and a lid to top it off! You have left furniture making and now reside in Boxville! I sure am glad that your model hasn’t abandoned you, now that you reside in Boxville-LOL-Keep up the good work-This really is the best one yet!
Sincerely,
Ken McGinnis

Thanks again guys,
Scrappy it is an obsession sorta. The little boxes looks good and dont tale a week or two to finish. I try to squeeze one in each week after normal shop hours .
Darrell, That little girl spends many hours in the shop with me. She takes up house in the set of cabinets i`m building. just as soon as i set a base in the floor she moves all her toys in . I have scrap blocks all over the shop and out side. she might make a wood worker one day.
Ken, I haven`t left this is just a fling. Thanks
