A Purple Heart, Yellow Heart diamond shaped Desk Clock with a Walnut structure. A first coat of spar varnish, followed by clear coats of polyuthethane. The clock is not attached to the base, it is “balanced” there on a clean cut 45 degree edge.
I probably should have used my small paint sprayer for the finish instead of a brush. I’m sure the next one will even be better. I just got some Bubinga and Birds Eye Maple which I’m anxious to try.
Comments welcome !!!

How did you know how it wouldn’t tip over. Was it trial and error or did you figure it out mathematically? Nice job. Welcome to lumberjocks…

Very creative. If this is your first shot, I’m sure we all have many more out of the ordinary pieces to look forward to.

Q: How did you know how it wouldn’t tip over? Was it trial and error or did you figure it out mathematically?
A: It’s not mathematical; it’s about the angles and the balance. The wide beam on the left that “balances” on the base has a 45 degree cut. As a matter of fact, the base is not even needed, I just thought it would look cool. The notch that the balance arm attaches to is also a 45 degree cut, which levels it out to 90 degrees. From there, once the diamond portion had the clock installed, it was simple a matter of moving the balance arm left or right until it was perfectly balanced and stood on it’s own. A small brass screw attaching the balance arm to the main beam keeps it in place and always in balance.
