I build notebooks of information each day as one of my jobs, so I needed a little space to spread out and build the notebooks. Space is at a premium here in the office, so I had to figure out a way to replace a broken desk holding up the scanner and a stool that was holding up the printer. I hunted around camp for some parts and ideas. I lucked into a conference table that didn’t fit into a conference room for a table top and some sheets of plywood that were bigger than the usual scrap. I hauled it all back to my scrap yard and set about building two pieces. The first piece is a plywood surround for the small ‘water’ fridge that could hold up a very heavy printer. The second piece is the table. I built the table higher than the typical 30” height so that I could stand at the table and work without being bent over all the time. The storage area under the table comes in real handy as well. To keep it from looking too bad, I found a locally made blanket to hang under the desk and make it a little better to look at.
You can see the printer on its new support and the scanner and DVD player on the table. The new work area for building notebooks is at the end of the table. The big problem now is keeping all the other people from putting stuff on the only flat space in the office.

a1Jim,
I can’t say any more about what the notebooks are, but as one of my 8 jobs here, I arrive at the office and build notebooks from 5 am until 10 am each day, then my other seven jobs kick in until about midnight each night. We don’t get a day off, so I usually have to build stuff during my lunch and dinner breaks. After six months straight with only four days off (due to viral bronchitis), I am way past the fun factor. Lucky for me, I only have till the end of January until I get paroled.
