This is a project that a friend’s fiancĂ© asked me to make for her man. She wanted it all from recycled materials so I found some old lumber in the shop from a barn teardown a while back. There is no stain, just poly finished. Measures 18” X 18” X 4”. The lumber was so dry that is took a little over a quart of poly to build it up enough to make it food safe enough to put a cake on. The dry lumber kept soaking up the finish. She was overly pleased with the piece.

All corners were mitered and glued up with counter driven pins to hold it together while the glue set. The “S” and the fish hook hearts were painted on to look like a burl of sorts.

That’s awesome. Is the top western red cedar?
