This platter is part of a set of tableware I was asked to turn. Walnut platter 13 inches in diameter and 1/4” thick. Made 4 of these, 4 bread plates, 4 bowls and 4 coffee plates. I used Mahoney’s walnut oil to finish all the wood. With the right care these can be used for everyday eating.

Nice, Jeff! That’s a bit bigger than my 12×20 Jet can handle. Any concerns about the pith checking at some point?

Great platter. Nice wood and finish.. Also wondering about checking. What are your concerns?

Not concerned about any checking as the walnut that these pieces came from had been down for quite some time. I stored the logs in a barn on cants and let them air dry and then cut oversize blanks up and treated them with anchorseal.
