Garden Bench - Red, White, Greene and Greene

Project by Tom Goodman posted 92 days ago 612 views 7 times favorited 13 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I had this design in my head for quite some time and when the garden Bench contest came along I knew this was my next project. But the “next project” was the first mistake, I should have dropped everything and started it. My wife and I went on a two week planed vacation. And my second mistake was not knowing my new laptop well enough (actually window vista). And I literally had minutes left to put it on Lumberjocks when I had trouble cropping and uploading the pictures. Oh well, better luck next time.
At lest now my wife and her mom have a place to sit out in the back yard together and watch the humming birds.

Made of Redwood, Alaskan White Cedar with just a touch of Greene and Greene style. I didn’t have enough redwood or Alaskan White Cedar so I combined them. I also wanted to put more Greene & Greene style into it but had no time.
Over all length = 7’8”
Bench (between arm rest) = 4’2”
Height = 6’
I put a water sealant on it. Any advice on any other finish would be welcomed.

My wife says that I would have gotten in the top ten. But most wives would say that …right ?
Well I love my wife. But fellow Lumber Jocks I are the best critics.
What do you think ?

Thats a great looking bench setup. Nice job on the construction and mixed materials.

My outcoors benches I use an outdoor wood Cypress or similiar and no finish. I’ll just let the wood age.

I must agree with the rest of the posters. Great use of mixing the woods and I love the design. This should score you some big points with the wife and mother in-law

I like this as well. I have absolutely no doubt this would have won. I know I would have voted for it!

Tom Goodman,
Yeppers Christopher, got it right, this would have won for sure. I’d have cast my first place vote for it too! Congratulations on an excellent design. I think that is what primarily piqued my interest. The mix of woods looks great as well. Yeppers, it surely could have been a winner!

Sincerely,
Ken McGinnis
