Hi all and a very happy Christmas to everybody.

My wife gave me a piece of Conkerberry tree for my birthday and it was quite an odd shape and about 12” long and 5” diameter (I should have taken a pic i guess).

I was inspired by the Rylstone Wood Symposium to try a bit of carving (all be it a lot smaller). I used an Arbortech cutter for most of the work. My hands are aching from sanding I must get myself some carving chisels if I do something like this again.

The wood Conkerberry;…/apocynac…/carissa-lanceolata/ is a small scrub bush, when the finish is added it turns a really lovely orange colour. It is however very gnarly and usually has a lot of cracks etc.

Please keep safe everybody.

That is beautiful work, it looks archaic, almost natural. I have never heard of that species before. It’s fissures and color are very neat, I especially like the hint of sap wood you left hanging on the back of the bowl.
