One of my friends brought back a chair / stool from Egypt and let me take measurements. The first two pics are my prototype made from poplar, with the third being made for my son out of oak. The beauty of this is that it actually looks like a chair or a stool.

It is so funny that you just posted this. I saw a chair like this in a movie three days ago. I rewound it several times to try to get a better look at it, but it was on the screen for less than a second. This post is perfect.

Fabulous job. Always wanted to make one. Your design looks even better than the ones I’ve seen.
If you post your measurements, please add me to the list also.

I will be glad to post the layout – what is the easiest / quickest way?

It looks very similar to the Popular Mechanics folding stool. They have plans online here

LumberingDog – thanks for that posting. I happen to like the Popular Mechanics better, I will have to try that one now.

Well crafted. A Franklin chair of superior design to boot.

I just posted the diagram for the chair-stool project. Finally got a trial copy of Adobe.
