Lamppost for Dickens Carolers

Project by Dick, & Barb Cain posted 1086 days ago 443 views 0 times favorited 6 comments Add to Favorites Watch

Yesterday my Sweetheart was setting out her Dickens Carolers, & she mentioned that she wished she had a Lamp Post to display with the group.

I went out to my shop after lunch, & I thought maybe I should make her a Lamppost. So I dug out a piece of Birch, mounted it in my trusty old lathe, & in about Two hours time, I delivered a Lamppost to her.

It’s 21” tall, & the base is 4”. The finish is Bees wax.

Ahh.., I love the instant gratification of the lathe, but sometimes lack the inspiration for a useful project like this one. I am still just practicing afterall, but how many spurtles does one really need?

Nice job – great shape/design!

Thanks Scott,
Another thing about the lathe. You hate to throw away a piece of wood, no matter what size it is, & even that, you can always make it bigger by glueing it to another piece of wood.

Thanks again Scott,
I now have a new word for my vocabulary.

Spurtles : This is the first time I’ve seen the word. I looked up the meaning.

chiefly Scottish : a wooden stick for stirring porridge.

Do you think it will work with my Oat meal ?

Absolutely! Just don’t let your wife catch you putting it in the dishwasher!
