A picture of a C-130 in a wood mag tempted me, so I made one. Everything except the wire for the front wheel is done by hand. Props were a pain – I broke two of them cutting them out on my HF jig saw. I forgot to tape the back of the wood. Engine pods are MDF. Wings are 1/4 project board and the body are dressed 2×4s. Dowels for the wheels pass through the wheel pod, the wheels, and into the plane’s body – for strength. The horizontal stabilizer and the wing are both glued and pinned. The vertical stabilizer fits into the horizontal stabilizer and the body for strength. Chrome paint for the plane and black for the windshield and radar nose. Viewed from straight on, the nose looks a little like a Vietnam era Huey. All the extra strength efforts are because the plane will be in the hands of a 6 year old. But thats OK, the build was for him to play with, not to admire on a shelf.
