I built these rabbit hutches just over a year ago. My wife always wanted pet bunnies, so I agreed, seeing as it gave me the opportunity to build some hutches. The panels are made of some left over walnut hardwood flooring. I did my floors in another house and have had about 6 cartons of left over material that I have been saving for a project. This worked out perfectly. I built the first hutch entirely out of walnut, but ran out before starting the second. I did that one with home center pine. I didn’t put a finish on either one because I wasn’t sure how it would effect the rabbits if they were chewing on the finished wood. Both have hinged tops, but only the pine one has a door that opens into the litter box area. That was a design flaw in the first one that I changed for the second one. Initially, they were used to keep the rabbits separate until we could get the male neutered. Now that they cannot multiply, they are stacked in a shed that I built out in the back yard. The upper one has the door removed and I have a ramp up to the second level. These were fun to build and make great homes for the rabbits.
