My first turning project. This was meant more to dust off the cobwebs (I have not turned since deploying in February) and to see how the wood turns. I had found a cache of cut trees on the base I work at and spent some time with a bow saw cutting them up. The wood is checked pretty badly, but there are some useable pieces. As I worked through the checks and inclusions, I was not left with much to go with, however, and all I could salvage was a lowly egg. I had fun and it was worth the effort of hand sawing all of that wood. Plus, if 20 years from now, somebody is looking over my works and says “Which came first?” I can honestly answer “Why, the egg, of course!”

Take care,

Eric

If you can read material and extract what is of value – that’s a talent in itself!

Next challenge – carve yourself a chicken!

Nice job, Eric. That is a nice piece of lumber that you managed to salvage.

Great egg. Just how big is this thing?

Looks good. Just love the color on that log.

Keep it up.

I got a chuckle at the photos series: from a big pile to a single egg..
And then I chuckled at the “which came first” line…

and then I chuckled at the suggestion of now carving a chicken.

Great way to start the morning – chuckles and eggs :)
