I have a small shop, a one car garage, so efficient storage is important to say the least. The bench and cabinets are a modified version of plans I found in Handyman magazine. All the cabinets and equipment are on wheels and the tops of the cabinets are the same height as the table saw and miter saw so they can serve as outfeed tables. The rolling cabinets can also be clamped together to make a large work surface. The gap under the tops serves as flat storage and allows things to be clamped to the top if needed.
No, it isn’t always that clean :)

Amazing organization, and very well thought out.
I’d be afraid that if I had such a setup I’d never do anything for fear it all would never go back.
Thx for sharing.

This is great! I’m presently trying to plan a better small workshop system. Any way you could post more detailed pics of your setup?
Thanks!

Thanks! I got the plans from The Family Hanyman magazine a year or two ago and modified them slightly to suit me. I’ll try to find the original and let you know which issue. It’s probably on their web site too.

Hey… that’s awesome! I really love what you’ve done…
I’ve actually been drawing out something like it, but haven’t put up yet…
I built storage cabinets up top, but nothing more yet… still working on it…
I have a few questions – if you don’t mind – (well even if you do mind, I still have the questions – just may not get the answers, hehe)
1) do you use the bench or the little stations on wheels as the outfeed tables for the saw/mitre?
2) is the bench on hinges to put down when you need added space? I put my over cabinets at 6’4 (I’m just under 6’2, so I can walk under them with no problems if it was down.)
3) are you using lockable wheels? do they stay sturdy enough?
4) what did you make the top out of? I’ve been thinking about using solid core doors from home depot – 80×32 I think…
5) what would you change if you had to do it again?
Sorry for asking so many questions… but it’s so similar to what I’m trying to do that I’m all pumped up!!!
You can see my shop so far if you’re interested on my page – where did you find the plans? I’d love to see what you used…
Thanks!
David

Nice work! I’m in the process of putting my garage together with workbench and cabinets. I saw the bench which gave you inspiration in the background of one of the Family Handyman storage compilations, but can’t find it on the website to save my life! I think we all can agree their website is VERY cumbersome and hard to navigate. I saw in an older comment you were going to look for the issue which had the original plans, did you find it by chance?
Thanks in advance!
Dan

I found the Family Handyman issue! It was September 2005. Thanks again for the inspiration!
