This started out as a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home – after we got finished cutting… this was all we had left. By the way…the tattoo’d arm in the picture is just someone who decided to just wander into shot – we have no idea who that was…
Box is made out of Curly Maple and Peruvian Walnut – Incra double – double dovetail – box lid connected by a piano hinge on the back – box finish still needs a bit of work – just on the second coat of linseed oil – hope to finish it of with a couple of coats of laquer to give it a high gloss – first time attempt with this so wish us luck!! Any ideas or suggestions are always welcome!!

Nice work! I’m attempting my first corner post double dovetail box like this right now. It’s definitely been a fun little challenge… it really forces you to think beyond the incra system. I see this isn’t your first so I’m sure you’re past all first time mistakes I’m making. Did you glue that all up in one piece and then cut off the lid or did you make each separate? It kind of looks like separate pieces since the grain isn’t an exact match.

Welcome to lumber jocks webwood, I just noticed you live just down the road from me. Nice job on the box! I will be down your way soon to pick up a roll of Maple edge banding for a project I am working on maybe we can do lunch one day, I use to go to the Park side diner when I worked at ENSER Corp on 70th in Pinellas Park.

kevin83 – grew up in algoma wi , on lake michigan – we made an extra joint on this box , then cut the top off wich keeps the joints symetrical (hides the kerf) so almost an inch was removed , hence the grain difference——sandhill – my shop is off 62nd ave west of 34th st – awful warm in there lately – where do you get lumber? getneds – yes – this box will get a chain for the lid once finishing is done——thanks for looking – starting some lacewood projects – spending more time pulling out slivers than cutting lol

Weiss Hardwoods in Largo when I have to but I was not happy with there selection or prices. I have been getting my lumber from Exotic Lumber in Maryland when I get up that way but for the price you cant beat what you get even with shipping. They carry the best exotics I have ever seen and there curlys, spalteds, and tiger stock is wounderful, here is a sample of there Zebrawood.

I have some extra Quilted Makore I brought back. I am making two night stands and I am using some for the tops with quilted Maple around the outside. I need to wait until the humidity drops before I do any more on it though, my shop is out in the garage with no AC. I do mostly sheet stock in the hot weather.

Fantastic…I have the Incra Jig and have attempted some Corner Post, but this will certainly be on the list for the fall time in the wood shop. I like the design, i like the lid, i like the color scheme….pretty much a home run out of the park. Also, thank you very much for sharing the tip of cutting that extra joint out. very nice tip, and one really great reason to belong to lumberjocks. I noticed that the joint was missing the kerf of the table saw blade.

nic – you can also adjust one joint to be 1/8 or 3/32 wider than the rest -

You do great work I looked at your site and i love all those boxes you have built. I just purchase a dove tail jig from a friend that has several dove tail jigs and also a set up like you have. I bought his tweleve inch jig from him and been practiceing they are not perfect but looks pretty good. Keep those boxes coming.
Thanks for posting.
