This is one of the many arbors that Gary and I have done in the Austin area. Design is by one of the Dailey brothers.

Great looking arbor! Since I am located over in Kerrville, do you find that it gives enough shade? Is the blocking in the middle for a light or a fan (or both)?

John,Since the back of the house faces east, the arbor provides more than enough shade. There was a huge difference inside the home between day one when we started and day two when the home owner invited us in for a drink when we finished. I’m not sure how much it cut off of their cooling bill, but I’m sure that it was worth it. As far as providing enough shade while lounging outside…. I don’t think that there is such a thing in the middle of a good Texas summer. I believe the blocking was for a fan/light combo that the home owner was going to pick out after it was stained and sealed. I really miss the Austin area. I hope that you’re enjoying life down there.
